The questions worth asking before you begin your search—from everyday routines to long-term priorities.
A good search starts well before the first viewing. The clearer you are about how you want to live, the easier it becomes to recognise the right place when you see it.
Start with an ordinary day
Walk through a typical weekday and a typical weekend. Where does the morning begin? Who needs quiet, and when? How far is too far for the things you do most often? The answers shape a brief more reliably than a list of features.
Separate needs from preferences
Write down what cannot be compromised, then what would be good to have. Most successful purchases involve trading a preference for something more important — it helps to know in advance which is which.
Think in years, not months
Consider how your household, work and routines might change. A home with a flexible room, a manageable garden or space to extend can adapt with you.
Bring your brief to an advisor early. A clear conversation at the start saves time, and often reveals options you would not have found alone.
